May "Book of the Month", "How to Win Friends and Influence People"

We know you get tired of all the marketers coming around and dropping off garbage on your desks and begging for work. Well, at ServiceMaster of Salt Lake we want to try something different and send out a "book of the month" invite to all of you. We will be starting in May with Dale Carnegie's book, "How to Win Friends and Influence People." The book was first published in 1936, but the principles have held true for nearly 80 years. In fact, its initial publishing consisted of only 5,000 books. Little did they know that the book would become one of the best selling books of all time. Join us in our efforts to learn to better communicate with others and build stronger relationships.

Mr. Carnegie gives us 9 Suggestions to get the most out of his book. They are:

1. Develop a deep driving desire to master the principles of human relationships.
2. Read each chapter twice before going on to the next one.
3. As you read, stop frequently to ask yourself how you can apply each suggestion.
4. Underscore each important idea.
5. Review this book each month.
6. Apply these principles at every opportunity. Use this volume as a working handbook to help you solve your daily problems.
7.Make a lively game out of your learning by offering some friend a dime or dollar every time he or she catches you violating one of these principles.
8. Check up each week on the progress you are making. Ask yourself what mistakes you have made, what improvement, what lesson you have learned for the future.
9. Keep notes in the back of this book showing how and when you have applied these principles.

I like #7. It sounds like it could be a lot of fun and creates some accountability for those you work with. We are always open to suggestions and look forward to your opinions. Let us know your thoughts as you progress through the book.
